Dikir Barat. Man , i miss them.

Today's... teachers day. Almost every student were taking part in this Teacher's day performance shows and stuff , yep included me as well. Everything went quite well accept , erm , the PA system sucks ( told them better change that PA system years ago , cheh , padan muka ) and , the spotlight... was on fire today , wakakak , i found it quite cool , luckily it went better then.

The most impressive performance of all was , i think , Dikir Barat. I always love it , especially when i was in Form 5 , and our whole class were ask to perform something on the stage, and someone ( i forgot the name ) had actually came out of this idea , about performing Dikir Barat.

And so we did , and everyone said it was a great performance , depending on Izac's , syahraffudin's, Syahsnie's humor characteristic , and plus some small chinese community group, that's me , meng juan , poh yue , pui yan , and chin hung ( they found it special 'cause with chinese on it ) creative ideas , and also !! The most important ones , the singer , AIN , wakaka , she sings it good , is kinda hard now to find such teenager sings syahir that well ( Malay's tradition poems or what so ever ) . I found it very special because , i admire the way those guys manly and energetic perform the singing part , when everyone from the front line , has to shout and sing.. it greatly shows out the spiritual movements of an united team , trying to send out their own messages through poems sings and shouts , it was an tradisional art performance , audience will surely feel excited while looking at us performing such great arts. And the clapping we did , was indeed cool. Everything was plan fantastically , and the show was great , and those guys , wakaka , was proud of their own great actions on stage , because Dikir Barat could actually shows out a male's masculinity, and of course plus my team's humorist act , it was really great to see and laugh your ass out wakaka. It reminds me when i was still a little girl , there was a church camp which was held out in cameron highland's if i am not mistaken , those adults needed to performe their own shows every year church's camp , and each one of them form a team. There was one team , does Dikir Barat , did alot of nonsence act but send funny messages to all of us , was kinda impressive especially the main singer , a guy , created those funny words out automatically !! Cool !! He's like a born talented performer. They succeed to perform this complete nonsence show and make us laugh till our ass out!! The audience felt the joy and they won the third place for that. I was totally fond into this special arts. Man !! I miss my form 5 friends !! ARggggg !! If , the time could turns back , i choose to perform Dikir Barat together with all my pals during form 5.

Dikir barat is a style of call and response singing originating in Kelantan . It is well known throughout the Peninsular through local television and performing groups. A dikir barat group, which may be of any size, is led by a tukang karut who makes up poems and sings them as he goes along. The chorus echoes in response, verse by verse. Dikir barat groups usually perform during various festive occassions, and their poems are usually light entertainment and may be about any topic, but are not religious in nature. The chorus traditionally consists of all men, but modern groups, especially those performing on television, often include women. Traditionally, no musical instruments are used, the singing being accompanied instead by rhythmic clapping and energetic body movements. Some groups however do use a pair of frame drums or rebana, a shallow gong and a pair of maracas, for accompaniment.
